Introducing Mitten State Barbie's Instagram!

I’d like to introduce you to a close friend of mine. Her name is Mitten State Barbie (@mittenstatebarbie), and I created her!

This has been a little side project of mine since last December of 2015. I stumbled upon the popular Socality Barbie Instagram (a late discovery, as she had already stopped updating by that time) and was so inspired! Anyone who knew me in my pre-high school days knows that I am a HUGE Barbie fan! Unfortunately it took a back seat from about 2003 to 2015 as I proved myself to be a normal adult who didn’t play with Barbies. Except now I want to play with Barbies. I am 27. After seeing that Instagram account I thought, I could totally do this myself! And perfect timing, because Mattel released the new Made To Move Barbies right at the same time. They are the first fully-articulated Barbies! Very exciting.
Tap the video below to play her yoga sequence!

Of course I had to make her look like myself! Mattel hadn’t introduced the newer redhead Made To Move Barbie yet so I had to take matters into my own hands. After lots of analyzing of skin tones through online images, I bought the blonde Made To Move (2015), and found Surf City Midge (2000) on Etsy. Perfect skin tone match. One head-swap later, Mitten State Barbie was born! To top it off, I found her glasses in my old bin of accessories. Transformation complete!

How ambitious am I feeling?? 🍹☀️ #itssohotoutside #wineoclock #spritzertime

She recently acquired a friend, @barbieatthebarre, run by my friend Claire (who is a dancer). They went on vacation together last week:

Summertime! I'll drink to that! ☀️🍻 #beachday #summertime #livinitup #puremichigan #barbievacation #barbiefriends

Seriously? Another gray day? Michigan, you disappoint me today *sigh* πŸ˜’

Engagement Photos on!

For our upcoming wedding, my fiance and I hired Dave and Candice of Lamarand Style to be our photographers. We love their work! Last fall, Dave shot our engagement photos (which I blogged about). I'm excited to share that we're now in the current engagement portfolio on their website! I took some screenshots to document this, as I'm sure they switch out their photos every season. Our "fame" won't last!

If you're in the Detroit area and looking for wedding photographers, so far we've been very pleased with our choice. Look through the rest of their work on their website,

Mid-Century Love

My Etsy shop continues to grow! Today I added my newest cross stitch pattern: Mid-Century Shell Chairs. These lovely cross stitched chairs are styled after the famous Eames Plastic Shell Chair released in 1950.
I did a little extra reading up on the history of the Eames Plastic Shell Chair and discovered some interesting tidbits. These are pulled from the Herman Miller website:
  • "The story of the Eames Plastic Shell Chair really began more than ten years prior to Charles and Ray’s 1950 debut of their now iconic design for Herman Miller .... the seeds of the plastic shell we know and love today were really planted in the late ’30s"
  • "In the early 1990s, Herman Miller ceased production. After years exploring more sustainable solutions, the company reintroduced the Molded Plastic Shell Chair in 100% recyclable polypropylene in 2001, based on prototypes in the Eames Office archives, which Charles and Ray had made with fiberglass-free plastic in the 1970."
Read the full Plastic Shell Chair story at the Herman Miller website. Then stitch away in furniture-design-nerdiness-glory! Don't be surprised if I create more Eames-inspired patterns. I'm pretty in love with their iconic designs.

Par-Tea Time for my Birthday!

This coming Saturday is my birthday (27 years old, what what!) and in celebration I finally created a new cross stitch pattern for my Etsy shop! Obviously I'm a big fan of tea, so this pattern is quite fitting for the occassion.
Doesn't it make you want to join in on the celebration? And who doesn't love a good pun? xxxx-stitch-stitch-stitch-xxxx-sip-sip-sip-xxx

Get Ready to Dance! "Save the Date" Design

Remember my post a few months back about our awesome engagement photos? I ended up using two of them on our "Save the Date" design. It feels great to have another thing checked off the wedding to-do list! Signed, [designed], sealed and delivered.

Since Dan and I met while tap dancing (many moons ago), I thought it would be fun to include a dance reference. Plus we actually want our guests to dance at the wedding! And no, the nice blur job at the bottom is not a part of the design ;) Now my next design task... the wedding invitations! Eeeek!

Cactus wanted to be a part of this post (so I graciously let him in on the photo).
